Starting Monday, February 7 we will be holding our classes at
St. John’s Methodist Church at 1716 North Augusta St.
(It is just a little over a mile from SAB).
Our classes will be on their regular time schedule.
We will need to make a few slight changes to our
Pink Diamonds and Diamond class schedules,
but we will contact those parents separately.
On the morning of February 3, we were notified of a fire at Rask Florist, the building adjacent to ours. Luckily the fire did not reach our building, but we do have extensive smoke and water damage. The last few days have been truly overwhelming to us. Every surface is black, every costume, every headpiece, every prop is ruined. It took us 32 years to collect these items, so it is heartbreaking to see them lost. We are absolutely blessed that this fire was early in the morning when no one was at Rask Florist or SAB. The outpouring of love and support we have received from you, the community, and ballet friends from all over the country has been overwhelming in such a beautiful way. It absolutely has given us so much strength and courage to make a full recovery. We thank you so much.
We have been so graciously offered a temporary home to continue our classes. Starting Monday, February 7 we will be holding our classes at St. John’s Methodist Church at 1716 North Augusta St. (It is just a little over a mile from SAB). Our classes will be on their regular time schedule. We will need to make a few slight changes to our Pink Diamonds and Diamond class schedules, but we will contact those parents separately. We will be using the parking lot that is in the back of the church. There is a basketball court in the parking lot. We will mark the door with balloons and a sign so you can find us easily.
We want to make this transition to our new space as comfortable as possible for everyone. We know you will want to see us and see where the children will be dancing, where the bathroom is, etc. Please plan to come in for a few minutes this week when you bring your dancer. We will show you the facilities. We expect that the little ones will be anxious to be in a new place. We want them to know things will be remarkably similar to what they are used to at SAB. The place is different, but Miss Shanda, Miss Anna, Miss Faith and Miss Pam and our special helpers will be the same. Class content will be the same. We believe that this first week we need to take time to talk to the children about what happened and make sure they know we are ok, and, in a few months, we will be back at our SAB studio. Then, things will be fresh and new. We appreciate you taking the time to come in at the beginning of the lesson this first week. It will be most helpful.
We will be keeping all our Covid protocols. Everyone will need to continue to wear masks and observe social distancing. Parents, please remember to wear a mask when you come in this week. When the children enter the door, they will be greeted by Kelsie and/or Gabby who will take their temperature, give them hand sanitizer and escort them to the room that will be their temporary ballet studio. At the end of class, they will be escorted out and delivered to their parent. We hope that after a week, or two St. John’s will feel like a home away from home.
We have started an Amazon registry with items Miss Shanda is needing right away for her preschool and kindergarten classes. You can find the registry by searching Staunton Academy of Ballet under Registries on Amazon or by using the button at the top of this page.
Again, we are so appreciative of all your love and support. We are so grateful for so many things during this very trying time. We thank the wonderful people of St. John’s for giving us the opportunity to keep your children’s routine much the same. See you this week at St. John’s!

"Staunton Academy of Ballet is everything you want your ideal ballet studio to be. They are a family run business that treats all of their students like part of that family, they are a huge part of the patchwork quilt that is the downtown Staunton community. SAB will give your dancer the training they need to both succeed as a dancer, but also as a well-adjusted adult. They prize hardwork and individuality in their students."
"Both my dancers are learning the true art of ballet, as well as commitment and fellowship. What a geat place we call our studio.... Thanks for being there for all those dancers."
"...Not only have they provided excellent classic ballet instruction, they are caring and compassionate people who are always willing to help famlies and their kids even beyond ballet...."
